The Francis Scott Key Bridge Story

Challenge

On March 26, 2024, the destruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge was a tragedy that significantly impacted Baltimore and surrounding communities. The collapse created an urgent need for real-time situational awareness to support rescue and recovery efforts. The leadership at the Key Bridge Response Unified Command required the rapid replacement and augmentation of video feeds that were destroyed by the collapse of the bridge, and the addition of additional views to help manage the salvage of the MV Dali and reopen the port.

Approach

Skyline leveraged our unique camera and video interoperability capabilities to provide real-time situational awareness. Working in close collaboration with the Key Bridge Response Unified Command and the United States Coast Guard (USCG), our dedicated engineering team rapidly designed and deployed portable camera solutions ensuring access to essential video footage. Our portable camera solution is a completely standalone system requiring no external power or connectivity. This capability assisted the Unified Command in safe opening of temporary channels, and the successful salvage of the MV Dali.

Impact

Skyline’s commitment to safety and efficiency directly enhanced the effectiveness of rescue operations. By improving visibility and providing critical support during salvage operations, we not only assisted Unified Command but also contributed to the overall welfare of the greater Baltimore community. Skyline was very proud to support these efforts, we remain dedicated to fostering stronger, more resilient communities in the face of adversity. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those affected by this tragedy.
